Walking Group

The aim of the group is to organise monthly walks which are 4 to 5 miles in length and normally finish with a pub lunch. The day on which walks are held rotates around Tues/Wed/Thurs/Fri. The intention is to hold the walks all year round, but to cancel a walk if the weather is clearly going to be unsuitable. The Walking Group Leader is John Berry  who may be contacted via (email address) or telephone number 01582 769960

Each walk has a designated leader who makes all the arrangements and to whom any questions about the walk should be directed. The walking dates are set at the start of each Probus Year and details of each walk are circulated roughly 14 days ahead of the walk. Members are asked to inform the leader and the rest of th e group whether or not they will participate at least 2 days before the walk.

Most of the walks are circular and in the local area. However, leaders are free to organise out-and-back walks or one-way walks for which public transport or cars are used as appropriate. During the summer months, we may go further afield on one or two occasions for a full day outing.

Strollers Group

A “strollers group” has been formed within the walking group to cater for those members who are no longer able to manage the length of normal walks or who are temporarily restricted in the distance they can walk. The strollers typically walk for 2 to 3 miles and join the main group for lunch.

Longer day walks

These are organised separately from the normal monthly walks. The frequency is 3 or 4 times a year, and the distance covered is between 7 and 10 miles.

Because of the nature of these walks, no provision is made for strollers.

Longer walks with an overnight stay

These are organised separately from the normal monthly walks. The overnight stay allows us to go further afield, eg Derbyshire, and we would cover about 8 miles one day and 5 miles the next day.

The expected frequency is about once per year.

Strollers can join these outings provided that one of their number is prepared to organise appropriate shorter walks.
Wives/ partners are welcome to join these outings.

Because so many club members have email addresses, communications within the group are almost entirely by email.

The Club has re-published (June 2020) a document containing its “GUIDELINES FOR ALL ACTIVITIES”. These apply to all activities organised by the club or its members. Click on this link to read the document.

Members interested in joining the walking group should contact John Berry 07977 139 198 or email at (click here); a new members joining form maybe down loaded from here
